Last Will and Testament of David B. Purinton

I David B. Purinton of the Township of Eden in Clinton County in the State of Iowa hereby make and publish my last will intending thereby to dispose of all the worldly estate which I shall own at the time of my death.

1st. I hereby give and bequeath to my daughter Amanda Powell One Hundred dollars to have and to hold forever she having already received from my hands One Thousand dollars.

2nd. I hereby give and bequeath to my son John Alfred Purinton the sum of Five Hundred dollars to have and to him his heirs and assigns forever he having already received from me property valued at Three Hundred dollars.

3rd. I hereby give and bequeath to my son Sidney Purinton Three Hundred and fifty dollars to have and to hold to him and his heirs forever he having received from me property valued at Five Hundred and fifty dollars.

4th. I hereby give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Elizabeth Purinton the sum of Three Hundred dollars to have and to hold to her and her heirs forever she having received from me the sum of One Hundred dollars.

5th. I hereby give and bequeath to my daughter Jennie Purinton Eight Hundred dollars to have and to hold to her and her heirs forever.

6th. I hereby give and bequeath to my son Birdie Sanford Purinton Eight Hundred dollars to have and to hold to him and his heirs forever.

7th. On account of the physical disability of my son Birdie Sanford Purinton I here by will and bequeath to him the said Birdie Sanford Purinton the further sum of One Thousand dollars which said sum is to be set apart and invested in real estate securities for his sole use and benefit by the executors of this my last will and the said sum of One Thousand dollars together with all the accruing interest on the same shall be paid to my said son Birdie Sanford Purinton by the Executors of this will on the day he is twenty five years old.

8th. I hereby give and bequeath all the residue and remainder of my property of whatsoever name and nature that may be left after the payment of the legacies herein before made and the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses and the Administration and Execution of this will unto my sons John Alfred Purinton, Signey Purinton, Birdie Sanford Purinton and my daughters Amanda Powell, Mary Elizabeth Purinton and Jennie Purinton in shares, share and share alike.

9th. I hereby authorized and empower the executors of this will to sell all the real and personal property of whatsoever name and nature that I may own at the time of my death within eighteen months after the day of my burial and to execute to the purchases or purchasers thereof in good and sufficient warranty deed for said real estate and bills of sale to the purchasers of my personal property and with the proceeds of the same pay the legacies hereinbefore named or so much percent of said legacies as the amount of money received by my executors from the sale of said property shall liquidate and in case there is not enough money to pay said legacies in full then each legatee shall receive an equal percent of the discount of his or her legacy to be determined by the total amount of money received by my executors from the sale of all my property as aforesaid.

10th. I hereby appoint my son John Alfred Purinton and my son in law George Powell executors of this my last will and I exempt them and each of them from the necessity of giving bonds for the execution of such trust.

11th. I hereby revoke all former by me made.

In witness whereof I have to this my last will contained in this and the two preceeding (preceding) pages of paper set my hand and seal this 16th day of June A. D. 1888.

The above instrument was signed by said testator David B. Purinton on the 16th day of June A. D. 1888 as and for his last will in the presence of us who at his request in his sight and presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto.

I William Kreim, clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the January Term A. D. 1889 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date in the 16th day of June 1888 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of David B. Purinton late of said County deceased and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto at my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 9th day of February A. D. 1889.
