Last Will and Testament of Alexander P. Jenkins

In the name of God Amen;
I Alexander P. Jenkins of Clinton County and State of Iowa of the age of forty three years and being of sound mind and memory do make publish and declare this my last will and testament that is to say:

First – I require my Executrix hereinafter named to pay out of my property all my lawful debts as fast as she can obtain the cash funds to do so without sacrificing the property of my estate.

Second – I give and bequeath to my wife Hellen L. Jenkins my home farm upon which I now reside consisting of 160 acres and described as follows: The East half {1/2} of the North East quarter of Section Eleven {11} and the West half {1/2} of the North West quarter {1/4/} of Section twelve {12} in Township Eighty three {83} North Range two {2} East of the Fifth Principal Meridian in Clinton County; Also the following described land in Jackson County IA. The North ten acres of the west three fourths of the South West quarter {1/4} of Section twenty one {21} Township Eighty four {84} North Range two {2} East of the Fifth Principal Meridian. This bequest to my wife Hellen is subject however to the following conditions that is, that my said wife shall support and maintain my mother Sarah Ann Jenkins and furnish her with a home in the dwelling house on the farm now occupied by me and my said mother during her natural life. The support herein referred to shall include board, clothing and all necessary expense including care and attention during sickness and this support and maintenance is hereby made a lien on said farm.

Third – I give and bequeath to my cousin Douglas Jenkins the South East quarter {1/4} of the South West quarter {1/4} of the South West quarter {1/4} of Section Sisteen {16} in Township Eighty four {84} North Range two East of the Fifth principal Meridian and I also direct that my said Cousin Douglas Jenkins shall have the use of the farm herein bequeathed to my wife Hellen for five years upon the same terms and conditions that he has been renting the same that is to say he shall have one half the increase of said farm and one half the increase and income from the stock on said farm owned jointly by said Douglas Jenkins paying one half of all the taxes on said property.

Fourth - I give and bequeath to my wife Hellen L. Jenkins all the balance of my property real and personal of every kind and nature wherever situated or located.

Fifth – I hereby appoint my wife Hellen L. Jenkins sole Executrix of this my last will and testament and that she shall not be required to give bond as such executrix or security of any kind but authorize commission to issue to her with out surety of any kind: hereby revoking all former wills by me made ?presented?. In witness whereof I have this 30th day of Jan’y, 1888 set my hand.

The above instrument consisting of three pages was at the date thereof signed & published & declared by Alexander P. Jenkins as and for his last will and testament in presences of us who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses there to:

I William Kreim, clerk of the District Court in and for said County do hereby certify that on this day at the April Term A. D. 1888 of said Court the will and instrument in writing hereunto annexed and bearing date in the 30th day of January 1888 was duly proved before and allowed by said court as and for the last will and testament of the real and personal estate of A. P. Jenkins late of said County deceased and was by said Court ordered to be recorded as such will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto at my hand and affixed the seal of the court at my office in Clinton in said County this 18th day of April A. D. 1888.
