The Clinton Herald Thursday March 3, 1932 Frank Kearney, DeWitt, was appointed today to fill the unexpired term of Peter Joens, deceased, as a member of the Clinton county board of supervisors. The appointment was made by a tribunal of county officials including County Auditor Buell Gode, County Recorder Carl Sohr and Clerk Harold Grumstrup of district court. Under the law these three officials are vested with power to make appointments filling such vacancies on the board of supervisors. Mr. Kearney's qualifications include former service with the board of supervisors. He was a member of a former board on which John Smith, member of the present board also served. The third member of the present board is Chairman Robert Witte. The new supervisor is a prominent member of the democratic party and always has been active in county politics. He will complete Joens' unexpired term, which ends Dec. 31, 1933. It is understood Mr. Kearney plans to make the race for supervisor term commencing in 1933. Supervisor Joes was in his second term as county supervisor. He died last Friday from an ailment with which he had suffered over a long period. The vote was split two to one in favor of Kearney, Grumstrup casting his ballot in favor of August F. Peters, a republican and a friend of the deceased supervisor, he explained. Sohr and Gode cast ballots in favor of Kearney. The meeting was held at 10:30 o'clock this morning in the office of Clerk Grumstrup. A resolution signed by the three members of the tribunal is on file there. As soon as Kearney had qualified by filing his $5,000 bond and takes the oath he will become a bona fide member of the board. He is expected to qualify in time to take office with the board at its next meeting, which will be held Monday, March 7.
