LOSS OF THE GRAND PACIFIC

During the heavy gale of Sunday, the steamer Grand Pacific, of the St. Louis and St. Paul packet line attempted to pass through the draw of the Burlington Bridge and was blown violently against the side of the pier tearing a great hole in her side. Through this the water rushed, and she rapidly filled, sinking in ten minutes in twenty feet of water. None of the passengers or crew were injured or lost. The cargo which was a light one, was only partly insured. The boat was valued at $20,000 and was not insured.
