The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, May 2, 1884

On Saturday evening at 8 o’clock, a pleasant party of friends visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Hall, corner of Fourth Street and Thirteenth Avenue, and proceeded to make themselves entirely and unquestionably at home. After the evening had well advance Mr. and Mrs. Hall were peremptorily ordered to the front and formally informed that it was their first wedding anniversary, and an elegant upholstery patent rocker was presented in behalf of the company with a cordial invitation that Mr. and Mrs. Hall “take a chair.” Mr. Hall responded in a brief speech, heartily thanking his friends for their good wishes and beautiful testimony. Games of various kinds and dancing melody and prompting of John M. Flanagan served to make the evening a pleasant one in every respect. A bounteous lot of refreshments was served and the guests departed just in time to keep from bending the Sabbath.
