The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 3, 1879

Mr. John Burdick, of South Clinton, while splitting wood slipped and received the blow intended for the wood, in his left foot, splitting it open up through the instep. Medical assistance was called in and the cloven foot put in a good way to heal up. It will be some time, however, before the foot will be as good as before.
