Davis Opera House Scenery

A grand and magnificent embellishment of the splendid Opera House, built by E. M. Davis Esq., is the scenery and drop curtain just painted by those distinguished painted artists. Messrs. Noxon & Toomey. The drop curtain is a superb piece of skillful work. We know of nothing equal to it in either of the Chicago or St. Louis theatres. It is exactly the kind of relief a person wants between sets. The side scenery is equal in excellence and beauty to that of the drop curtain. There a street scenes, a garden view, a log cabin, a chamber scene, two landscapes, a privon house, and a parlor – all of which are painted in the nicest style of the scenic art. The stage equipment taken as a whole, is equal to any theatre in the west. Mr. Davis has spared no expense in building, furnishing and embellishing such an Opera House throughout as well be sure to bring to this city the better class of theatrical and operatic talent. We have theretofore spoken of the magnificent room and its seating capacity, and we have referred to its splendid acoustic properties, and now come to add the stage scenery, and we have combined an Opera House unsurpassed anywhere in the country. We know it will be the earnest hope of every Clintonian that this now and costly venture of Mr. Davis, may bring to him an annual reward commensurate with the amount of the investment.

Next Monday the Opera House will be formally opened to the noble art it is designed for, by the appearance of Wailick’s New York Combination, the celebrated comedian, John Dillon, as the star. The occasion will be an enjoyable one, and we trust will be well attended. Mr. Dillon appears in different plays every evening.
