The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, January 29, 1875

Elijah Tompkins, a farmer residing near Camanche, and formerly a resident of this city, committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor on Saturday last. He was well known in the city as an industrious teamster, and no authentic case can be attributed for his committing this rash act, that consigned him to the grave of suicide. He was 78 years of age and leaves a second wife and two children. None of his own children resided in this community.
