The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, May 8, 1874

Wedded and Mated – On Tuesday evening of this week Mr. John J.Flournoy and Miss Agnes J. Adams were married. The happy event took place in the Episcopal Church, in the presence ofseveral hundred invited guests.

Mr. Flournoy has grown up with Clinton, and has made himselfvery popular in this community. Miss Adams,who is the daughter of Mr. Thomas Adams, Esq., the superintendent of the AmericanExpress Company, is one of Clinton’s most amiable and beautiful ladies. Of course there was an unusual interest takenby the public on the occasion of this wedding.

The reception in the evening at the residence of Mr. Adams wasof the most brilliant order. From 8 o’clockuntil 11 a steady and crowded stream of invited guests paid their respects tothe happy couple. The refreshmentprepared were was really a magnificent banquet, and was gotten up in the mostattractive manner. Delightful music ofRoot and Bush’s Band enlivened the occasion, and really everything went merryas a marriage bell.

The presents to the bride, were beautiful, valuable andappropriate – and all the more appropriate because the lady was worthy suchkind remembrances from relatives and friends.

The good wishes of all our people, for a life of happiness and realpleasure, attend the happy couple.
