Good Grit – A little girl about 13 years of age, living on Sixth Avenue, the other day asked her father for $25 to buy a side saddle. He laughingly told her if she would, unaided and alone, move a big stone lying just outside the sidewalk, into the yard, she should have the $25. We don’t know the weight of the stone, several hundred pounds, but the little girl went to work with a will. It was a slow job but she persevered. The stone was actually moved several feet by boards and wedges driven in behind it, and in this manner lifted upon a plank which rested on rollers on the sidewalk. This much done, the rest was easy. Of course the little Miss got her sidesaddle.
