John and Nancy Thomas Spaulding - John Spaulding, the seventh child of William and Eunice Apley Spaulding, was born in St. Lawrence County, New York, on November 25, 1830. He was married in DeWitt, Iowa on July 21, 1853, to Nancy Thomas, who was the eldest child of John and Eliza J. Turner Thomas, natives of Ohio. Nancy was born in Harrison County, Ohio on January 5, 1837. She was the oldest of five children, three girls and two boys. She came to DeWitt in 1839. John (Spaulding) and Nancy had ten children. (1) Eliza Jane was born September 23, 1855. She married Peter Cameron. (2) Loretta Ann, born April 20, 1858, was married to George W. Kinney and had three children; Robert William married Rose and had several girls; Albert married Loretta "Retta" Mahin of Cushing; Jessie married and had a daugher, Gladys, who married Carl Peterson and had two daughters. Laura marrieed Ray Spaulding, a cousin, and had four girls. George Kinney died in Olive Township in September 1882. Loretta married George W. Coleman and was divorced after about two years. She then married Palmer Price in 1889 and had a daughter, Ethel Laura, who married Pierce Reeves. (3) George Francis Spaulding was born September 1, 1861. He married Cora Bell Spaulding, a cousin. (4) James Henry Spaulding was born January 1, 1861 and married Laura Brown. (5) Sarah Cornelia "Neil" was born February 5, 1867. She married James Mulvey; they had three sons and one daughter. Walter died February 3, 1901. William married and had no children. Belle married Steve J. Ontko and had no children. Howard was the other son. They all lived in California. (6) Albert Marion was born May 1, 1869; he married Gertrude Gage. They had three children. Blanche Bernice, born April 1, 1897; married Victor Wobilliab of Afton, Iowa, where they lived for many years. They had three children. Blanche and Victor now live with a daughter, Bee Wobilliab, at Creston, Iowa. TTheir son, Lee, passed away. Their daughter, Virginia, lives near Afton. Guy Marion was born July 19, 1895. He married Josehpine Paudwein and lived in Chicago for many years. He's now deceased. They had no children. Eva Gertrude, born March 21, 1900, married Luther Carey of Des Moines and had a daughter, Doris, who died when she was about two years old. Eva later married Bruce J. Spaulding, a cousin, and they were divorced. She married Robert O. Bradley of Chicago on June 3, 1928. They lived in Chicago for many years. They later moved to DeWitt, Iowa where he passed away. Eva still resides there. They had no children. (7) Harriet Eva, born November 1, 1872, married George Gelgan of LeRoy, Kansas. They had two sons; Roy, who lived at Montezuma, Kansas, and Charles at Tribune, Kansas. Eva passed away on January 3, 1895 after the birth of twin sons who also passed away. (8) Margaret Ellen "Nell," born September 18, 1875, married Eli Jonson in 1898. He died and was buried at Battle Center Cemetery. She was married to Frank Hall and adopted a boy named Gerald. She was divorced and married Myron Enoch Dewell. Later she married Burt Southworth. (9) Lillian"Lillie" Bell was born June 18, 1879. She married William Lee and had two boys and a girl. Earl lived in Washington, D.C.; Nellie in Seattle, Washington. Their other son's name was Lloyd. (10) Katie N. was born October 4, 1880. She married Ed Wulf and lived at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She had two daughters: Vira Garnett and Virginia.
