I've been contacted by a helpful descendent of Richard's brother, George, and I've found how Richard ("Dixi") met his end in Dubuque in 1914 (fractured base of his skull on pavement keeping a runaway horse from hurting anyone else on the street).
From the newspaper accident reports we've learned that he may have had a daughter then living in Kansas at the time of his death.
We're looking for her descendents or to learn what happened to her mother, Virginia (Stroud Hagensick) Hanna. Richard C. Hanna, her father, is buried (I learned today) in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque, Iowa. He was respected by his co-workers at the Trexler Livery in Dubuque (in the newspaper accident accounts): they called him "dad" and went to him when they needed advice.
