Thomas Alderson

I need some help with Thomas S. Alderson and his wife and mother.
Thomas is buried in the old part of the Strawberry Point Cemetery with his wife Esther. His stone was recut some years ago and I was there when it was redone and I remember the rubbings so the new cut is identical to the original information on the stone.

The stone reads Esther Sunter , but all the family records I have she is named Ester Mary Gibson. Furthermore I have accounts that Thomas’s middle name is Sunter, which may have been his mothers maiden name.

Is it just that his mother and wife had the same surname? Had Esther been previously married? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
