Loma (Leona) & Fred Stendel were married in June 1917.
http://iagenweb.org/boards/clayton/documents/index.cgi?read=816412According to his obit, he entered the service in Feb. 1918, less than a year after their marriage. He died 9/26/1918, but his remains were not returned for burial until 1922 when a memorial was held & an obituary published (see: http://iagenweb.org/boards/clayton/obituaries/index.cgi?read=767388 ).
By that time Loma had remarried to Elmer A. Hansen and they had a son Alfred born abt 1920, and a
daughter Helen born 3/6/1921.
(scroll this page for her birth entry:
http://iagenweb.org/clayton/birth/BR_news.htm )
1925 census records include Alfred:1925 IA State Census, Mendon twp.:
Hansen, Elmer A., HOH, 28, father: Peter Hanson, mother: Sary Barnhaus [Sarah Barnhouse]
Hansen, Loma C., wife, 27, father: ?arby Hill [Darwin], mother: Catherine Marical
Hansen, Alfred, son, 5, father: Elmer Hansen, mother: Loma Hill
Hansen, Helen, daughter, 4, father: Elmer Hansen, mother: Loma HillElmer & Loma (Leona on gravestone) are buried in the National Cemetery:

My opinion is that Leona / Loma was not mentioned in Fred's 1922 obituary because they had such a short marriage (apparently without issue) and she had already remarried.
