I am re-posting this Facebook notice from the Clayton co. Genealogy Society in case anyone is interested.
Clayton co. IAGenWeb, and I, as the site coordinator are NOT affiliated with the Society, but thought this might be of interest to Clayton co. researchers since not everyone will see their notice on Facebook.
____________________________________________Digitizing the newspapers of the last four towns in Clayton County is a new project of the Clayton County Genealogical Society. We need your help in completing this project.
Many local newspapers in Clayton County are online. Elkader, Guttenberg, Garnavillo and Monona have been digitized and are available online due to the generosity of interested donors. The following towns of McGregor, Edgewood, Volga and Strawberry Point have local newspapers that have not been digitized and are not readily accessible for use. These newspapers hold a great amount of local information and family history.
There are currently newspapers on microfilm for the Edgewood newspaper (years 1897-2016) at the Edgewood Library. This information is currently available to one person at a time on a microfilm reader. We want to make this information easily available for all the people of Clayton County and other researchers.
McGregor also has many newspapers on microfilm (years 1856-2016), but again only one person at a time can use the microfilm reader so they need to be digitized.
Strawberry Point has no microfilm accessible for library patrons. They have the use of scrapbooks that are used for information, a few are indexed for easy access of information but some are not. After much handling these scrapbooks begin to deteriorate. The Library and Press Journal office have bound books that need to be digitized (years 1882-2016).
Volga newspapers have been microfilmed, but need to be digitized as well (years 1915-1933).
We are asking for the support of the communities to help with donations for this project, so the remaining newspapers of Clayton County can be digitized for everyone’s use. We hope you will want to be a part of this project.
Donations are tax exempt so put your town preference with digitizing on the memo line to help with this project. Send to:
