John S. Engler descendants

ENGLER, ANDERSON, TONNER, TROESTER

In 1851 when my great grandfather, Andrew Engler married, he moved to Garnavillo where he lived for two years before moving to the Cascade-Worthington, IA. area where he lived the remainder of his life.

When Andrew was in Garnavillo, he lived with John S. Engler. John's daughters married into the Anderson, Tonner and Troester families some of whom still live in Clayton Co. But I don't know any of them. I only read about them in bio's and obits. John's son, Charles, was a noted hardware store proprietor in Garnavillo. Charles did not marry, but another brother did.

If anyone is interested, I have prepared an Andrew Engler homepage explaining the Garnavillo connection. http://andrewengler.homestead.com

I am particularly interested in finding out who the parents of John and Andrew were. Our branch of the family has no information about their parents nor are we absolutely sure John S. and Andrew were brothers. Andrew lists himself as being from Baden and born in 1821. We have conflicting stories of how they arrived in Iowa.

Other siblings mentioned in the same Iowa census records of the early 1850s are Lawrence and Estenough. Does anyone know what happened to them?
