Denise,
Since the family lived in Garnavillo Twp. in the 1870 census, the Garnavillo
library would be an excellent place to start. They have many records from
churches, etc. Since the only death record is probably in the church they
attended. However, I have never seen the cause of death listed in the church
record. But sometimes one is surprised to see something you don't expect.
I have used the Garnavillo library a number of times with much success. I
hope you will also have good luck.
