The centennial edition of the North Iowa Times (November 1951) and the Cedar Rapids Gazette (May 1957) ran a articles about Marquette (North McGregor) & Spook Cave respectively. You'll be interested in these paragraphs from the articles:
"Marquette, formerly North McGregor, lies at the extreme northeast corner of Clayton county at the mouth of Bloody Run. This stream was first known as Giard's river ...."
"In the early days one of the industries was the grinding of grains for flour and feed. There was a flour mill located near the site of the Schroeder quarry on Bloody Run. It was called Troutdale mill and was built by a man named Morman and later operated by a Mr. Thiele. Near this was a trout pond run by Ruble...."
"There was another mill farther up Bloody Run owned by Spauldig and Marsh. Later it became known as the Shellhammer mill. Another mill was located at the mouth of Yellow river at the now forgotten town of Nezekano."
~North Iowa Times
___"Many years ago on the same stream, and at a point not far from downstream from Spook cave, stood an old mill known in the area as the Shellhammer mill. Oldtimers well remember the Shellhammer mill, say that parts of its foundation are still standing."
~Cedar Rapids Gazette
