If you are a Mohning descendant you will be interested in this ........

Sharyl,

I am Mrs. Dean (Linda) Mohning from Remsen, Iowa, in Plymouth County. As you can see from the attachment [see below for link], the Plymouth Co Historical Museum is honoring some of the early pioneers in our county. This February 25, they would like to honor the Mohning pioneers. We would like to contact Mohning descendents who stayed in Clayton County.

There were 5 Mohning pioneers (Herman, Johann, Lena, Sophia and Anna) who moved here around 1875-1880 or so. They were born in Clayton County, the kids of Herman Heinrich Mohning (the first) who was married to Mary Pepmeier. The Mohning pioneers had two more siblings who stayed in Clayton County. They were:

1. Johann Friedrich "Fred" Mohning who married Amelia Otting. They had the following children: Georgine, Evangeline, Lester and Foster.
2. Katharine Margarethe Mohning who married Charles F. G. Hedemann. They had the following children: Nelda, Carrie, Marvin and Robert.

As you can see, "time" is of the essence. Could you please put me in contact with some of the Mohning descendents who might still be living in Clayton County. We don't expect them to travel to Plymouth County for this event, but we are interested in updating that part of the Mohning family tree. We are also in search of a photo of Herman Heinrich I and Marie Pepmeyer, as no one here has one. We don't need an origianal photo, just a scanned image.

We would also be more than willing to share our information with our "out-east" cousins. At one time, I emailed a Ken Johnson (who is not related), but he seemed to know something of our important surnames which include Moellering, Meyer/Myer, Bruns, Schulte, Benjegerdes and more.

We have an early photo for which we have no names. Perhaps someone in Clayton County can identify these people? The elderly gentleman on the left is Herman Heinrich II.

Thank you so much! I can't tell you how much any help would mean to us. The old Herman Heinrich I, came to Plymouth County, following his retirement to be with his 5 children. He is buried in the Remsen City Cemetery (1822-1906).

My husband, Dean, is descended from Herman Heinrich II.
