Gretchen M. Entwisle

Gretchen M. Entwisle, 77, died Wednesday afternoon in Central Community Hospital after a sudden illness.

Surviving are five daughters, Darlene Tieden and Bonnie Smith, both of Elkader, Hazel Koehn of St. Olaf, Rita Carrier of Guttenberg and Judy Robins of Strawberry Point; two sons, Dale of Robins and Larry of Toddville; two sisters, Violet of Sumner and Dora Pieper of Clinton; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Peace United Church of Christ. Burial: Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today in Leonard-Witt's.

Postville Herald newspaper clipping from my mother's obituary collection. She did not hand date this obituary. Maybe someone from the family can post a date for it.

Funeral services for Gretchen Marie Entwisle, of Elkader, Iowa were conducted Saturday, August 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, Iowa, with Rev. Bob Williams officiating. Interment was in Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona, Iowa. Arrangements were handled by Leonard-Witt Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Lyle Sargent, Donald Walz, Edward Coobs, Kenneth Walz, Richard Troester, Roger Glawe. Honorary bearers were Roger Martin, Gerald Beck, James Stence, Jack Dittmer, and James Miehe.

Gretchen Marie, daughter of John and Margaret (Steffens) Walker, was born May 17, 1913 at Center Township of Fayette County, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the area, graduating from West Union High School in 1928. She was united in marriage to Orville Entwisle on August 20, 1929 at Austin, Minnesota. To this marriage were born eight children. Together they farmed in the Clermont, Iowa and Hawkeye, Iowa area until 1948 at which time they moved to Elkader where they continued to farm until retirement. Gretchen has been a member of Peace United Church of Christ since 1952.

Gretchen Marie Entwisle died Wednesday afternoon, August 8, 1990 in Elkader, Iowa after a brief illness. She was 77 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orville Entwisle who died in 1972, a son, Derald Entwisle who died in 1952, a grandson; 2 great-grandchildren; and a brother Harold Walker.

Gretchen is survived by her 2 sons, Dale Entwisle of Robins, Iowa, and Larry Entwisle of Toddville, Iowa; 5 daughters, Hazel (Ray) Koehn of St. Olaf, Iowa, Rita (Daniel) Carrier of Guttenberg, Iowa, Margaret Darlene (Duane) Tieden, and Bonnie Smith, both of Elkader, Iowa, and Judy Robbins of Strawberry Point, Iowa; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Violet (Loyd) Entwisle of Sumner, Iowa and Dora Pieper of Clinton, Iowa.
