Oran Allan Engelhardt 1928-1990
Funeral services for Oran Allan Engelhardt were held Tuesday, July 3, 10 a.m. Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Burial was in the Farmersburg-Wagner cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements.
Oran Engelhardt, son of Arno and Hattie (Best) Engelhardt, was born January 4, 1928 in Clayton County near Monona. He died Saturday, June 30, 1990 at his home in Postville.
He was baptized February 15, 1928 in St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg by the Rev. William Kraft and confirmed March 29, 1942 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona by the Rev. Herman Siefkes. He attended the rural schools of Allamakee County, Waukon High School and was graduated from Postville High School in 1945.
He grew up on farms in Clayton and Allamakee County, and farmed with his parents for several years. He served in the U. S. Army from 1954 -- 1956, working in the maintenance of the guided missile program. In 1965 he moved to Postville where he was employed as a mechanic by Lawson Implement. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a maintenance person by the Good Samaritan Center.
On August 5, 1977 he married Lolita (Buddenberg) Johnson in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gordon, in infancy and a sister-in-law, Irene Engelhardt.
Surviving are his wife, Lolita, 3 step-sons, Alan Johnson, Ossian, Gerald Johnson, Burlington, WI and James Johnson, Amana, IA; 2 stepdaughters, Lianne (Mrs. Ken Ryan), Pt. Lavaca, TX and Robyn (Mrs. David Gerleman) Nashua, IA; 8 step-grandchildren; one brother, Vernis Engelhardt, Oelwein; a nephew, Lt. Com. Dean Engelhardt, Norfolk, VA and a niece, Julie Engelhardt, rural Postville.
Casket bearers: Dean Engelhardt, David Schulte, Alan Johnson, Gerald Johnson, James Johnson, Ken Ryan and David Gerleman.
