Dwight W. Chase, M.D., Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, 1846, formerly of Delphos, Kan., died at the home of his daughter in Salina, Kan., January 18.

Death of Dr. Chase - Passed Away Yesterday at His Daughter's Home
Last night at 6:45 Dr. Dwight W. Chase passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C.M. White and Mrs. V.E. Butler, at 304 South Eleventh street. The deceased was eighty-five years old and his advanced age was the cause of his death.

Dr. Chase came to Salina about two years ago and has made his home here since that time. He formerly lived at Delphos, Kansas. Mrs. White, daughter of the deceased, was in California at the time of his death, but is now on her wasy home. The remains will be held here until she arrives and will then be shipped to Delphos for interment.

Dr. Dwight W. chase
The remains of Dr. Dwight W. Chase, who died in Salina Wednesday, January 18th, arrived here Monday morning and the I.O.O.F. took charge of the funeral. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church during the afternoon, and the sermon was preached by Rev. W.M. Covert, after which the lodges had their services and the remains were followed to the Delphos Cemetery, where interment took place.

Dr. Dwight Whitney chase was born in western New York in the year 1837 and died at his home in Salina, Kansas, January 18, 1905.

Dr. chase was a former resident and highly respected citizen of Delphos, and moved to Salina but a little over two years ago to be near his daughters, Mrs. C.M. White and V.E. Butler.

He was a graduate of Jefferson Medical college and hsortly after receiving his diploma married and moved to Edgewood. Later he went to Elkader, Clayton county, Iowa, where for over twenty-five years he practiced medicine, and being a prominent citizen held several terms of office, being elected to the state legislature for one term.

In the Civil War he was appointed surgeon of the 21st Iowa Infantry and was with his regiment until the close of the war, and in 1879 came to Delphos, where he lived until going to Salina to make his home with his daughters.

He is survived by his two daughters, his wife having died in this city several years ago. he was a member of the A.F. & A.M. of Delphos and of Cyreen commandery, of Beloit and of the I.O.O.F. Delphos and the G.A.R.

Dr. Chase was respected and beloved by his large circle of acquintances.

Death of Dr. Dwight W. Chase At His Home in Salina, Kans., Wednesday Evening, January 18th, 1905

Dr. Dwight Whitney Chase died at his home in this city, 304 South Eleventh, yesterday evening at 6:50 o'clock, in his eighty-sixth year.

Dr. Chase had been a resident of this city for only about two years, coming here from his old home at Delphos, Ottawa county, a year ago last spring to be near his daughters, Mrs. C.M. White and Mrs. V.E. Butler, 304 South Eleventh Street, Salina, Kans.

He was born in western New York, graduated at Jefferson Medical College, married and moved to Edgewood, Ia. and a short time afterward to Elkader, Clayton county, Iowa, where he lived and practiced his profession for more than twenty-five years.

In the Civil War he was appointed surgeon of the 21st Iowa infantry and was with the regiment through the south. In Clayton county he held a number of public positions and represented his county in the State legislature.

In 1879 he moved with his family to Delphos, Kans., where he has since resided. He has been out of practice for many years. He leaves two daughters as given above; his wife died in Delphos several years ago.

He was a member of the A.F. and A.M., Delphos, and Cyrene commandery, No. 23, Beloit; the I.O.O.F., Delphos, and the G.A.R. at the same place.

Mrs. White, who has been spending the winter in California, left Los Angeles for home Wednesday evening, over the Santa Fe, and is expected Saturday night.

His remains will be taken to Delphos, where services will be held next Monday by the Odd Fellows, assisted by the other orders of which he was a member. It is given to but few men to be more thoroughly and highly respected in the communities in which they live than was enjoyed by Dr. Chase. He was a very successful physician, and a man exceedingly punctillious in the discharge of every obligation of every character, of splendid physique, which remained with his to within a few days of his death, of genial disposition, voicing no complaints whatever and agreeable even under the most trying situations which are inseparable from human existence. He fought a good fight, he finished the course, he kept the faith.

The immediate cause of his death was due to hemmorrhage, which made itself manifest last Saturday, an entire surprise. He seemed for a brief time to resist its attack, was even dressed and was at lunch Tuesday noon, but the disease was too strong for the feeble vitality, and he gradually submitted, slowly he walked to his bed, suffering severely for sometime but gradually becoming insensible to the struggle, until at the hour given, he drew a few feeble breaths, leaned back upon his pillow in the arm of his grandson, Arthur Chase White, and very gently that fine mind and spirit left the exhausted body and slipped away to the green fields and beside the still waters.

The remains of Dr. Dwight W. Chase, whose death occurred in this city last Wednesday evening as noted in these columns, were taken to Delphos for burial today. Services were held in that place at two o'clock, by the I.O.O.F., assisted by the Masons, G.A.R.'s and the Cyrene Commandery No., 23 from Beloit. Accompanying the remains to Delphos were Mr. and Mrs. C.M. White, Mrs. V.E. Butler, Mrs. Otto Hockensmith, the two daughters and grand daughter of the deceased, and L.C. Butler and Arthur C. White, grandsons. -- Daily Union, Salina, Kan.
