_______________

Frank W. Jones, the fourth child of Willis and Augusta Jones, was born in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, April 29, 1895.

Corporal Frank W. Jones, Co E, 39th Infantry of the Fourth Division, Regular, was killed in action on August 5, 1918 in the battle on the Vesta River at or near St. Theiabault which is near Fismes. He was buried on a farm about two miles south of St. Theiabault. Later his body was moved to a national cemetery in France. The body arrived in Cresco Friday morning and was taken to the home of his mother, Mrs. Augusta Jones, in the first ward.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon in the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. E.D. Wells, under the auspices of the American Legion with military honors. The church was well filled with members of the Legion, the Auxillary and sympathizing friends. The choir sang three beautiful and appropriate hymns, and the sermon by Rev. Wells was very suitable to the occasion and appealing to the best that is in us.

On Tuesday morning the body was shipped to Monona for burial beside his father in the cemetery a few miles from that place. It was accompanied by his mother, sister, Mrs. Baade and brothers Floyd and Marvin and wife. The Lime Springs Post of the American Legion attended the funeral in a body.
