Chyrold Elmer Simons
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on June 26, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg, Iowa, with interment in the Brown Cemetery, rural Colesburg, for Chyrold Elmer Simons, 71 of Colesburg. who died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Edgewood Convalescent Center, in Edgewood, following a long illness. Leonard Funeral Home of Edgewood was in charge of arrangements.
He was born January 8, 1933, in rural Garber, Iowa to Elmer and Bertha Mae (Bowman) Simons. He attended country school in the area. He entered the U.S. Army on February 11, 1953, serving during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged on January 21, 1955.
He was united in marriage to Lois Funk on June 3, 1957, at the United Methodist Church, Colesburg. Two children, Richard and Mary, were born to this union.
Chyrold farmed many years in the Colesburg area and also was a logger. He began working at Ertl's in Dyersville in 1983 and retired in 1995. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a member of the William F. Brockmeyer American Legion Post #582, Colesburg.
Survivors include his wife Lois Simons and his two children, Richard and Mary Simons, all of Colesburg; his mother Bertha Mae Simons, Colesburg; two brothers, Lester (Carol) Simons and Herbert Simons, all of Colesburg and a sister, Sharon (Charles) Funk, Colesburg. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Verna Mae, in infancy.
