On Saturday last, December 18, occurred the death of Louis Eno, an old and respected resident of this place. He was born in Canada, May 10, 1827, and was eighty-eight years, seven months and eight days of age at the time of his death. He had been a resident of McGregor for about fifty years.

While yet a young man he heard the call of his country for volunteers and he enlisted in the Union army and served his country faithfully and well. He was a man highly respected by all who knew him and during his long residence in this place he has made many friends who mourn his death and who will miss him.

The funeral was held from the house Sunday, Rev. Cuttler officiating.

[NOTE: Louis / Lewis served in Co. B, IA 21st Inf Reg. An eye injury at Big Black River on 17 May 1863, thought minor at the time, caused his eventual blindness. His name appears on the Civil War monument in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. /H/]
