Elkader Register, Thur., 09 Apr. 1891. Volga column.
Sunday, April 5th, 1891, Joseph Tinker, residing in this township, south-east of town, was found dead in his barn. His family had gone to church, leaving him at home alone, as he was not feeling well, and upon their return he was found dead as above stated. He had been suffering for several weeks with la grippe, and the asthma, which affected his mind, for he had not seemed like himself for a day or two. He was in good circumstances, being a well to do farmer, a good citizen, honest, and highly respected. He will be missed by his many friends. Mr. Tinker was 46 years of age, and was a native of Bohemia. He came to this country in early life with his parents and brothers and sisters, who have lived in Sperry township about thirty years. He served in the War of the Rebellion, and was a member of the G.A.R. post at Volga.
