About fifty years ago she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Schlake at Garnavillo, with whom she went to housekeeping on a farm about a mile south of Garnavillo. To this union were born eleven children, all of whom survive with the exception of one son, Arthur, who preceded her in death a number of years ago. The remaining children and their place of residence are: Mrs. Ida Backhaus, Manly, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Schroeder, Jefferson township; John Schlake, Jefferson Township: Albert Schlake, Garnavillo township; Mrs. Alma Hamann, Guttenberg; Herman Schlake, Farmersburg tsp.; Mrs. Ruth Hamann, Garnavillo; Roy Schlake, Farmersburg township; Mrs. Nettie Thoma and Victor Schlake, Garnavillo. Mr. and Mrs. Schlake were about to occupy their new residence in Garnavillo, which they had erected this spring, and in which they intended so spend their remaining years in well earned rest, after having given charge of their farm to their youngest son Victor. Although deceased had been in poor health for several months her condition was not considered alarming until she became bedfast only a few days before her death.
