Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Mar. 1900. Local News columns.

At his residence in Marion township, on Saturday evening March 24, occurred the death of John Hulverson, from a combination of lung fever and rheumatism with which he had been afflicted for the past few years. Mr. Hulverson was born in Norway May 2nd, 1833. He emigrated to America in 1852, and after residing in Wisconsin two years came to Clayton county and settled in Marion twp. He had been twice married, both wives preceding him to the grave. Of the first union two children survive and eight of the last.

Deceased was among the most prominent men of his township, and by his frugality and industry had amassed a large competence. He was held in great esteem by all his neighbors, was a just and upright man, a kind husband and father and a man who will be missed in the community.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Marion church, Rev. Mr. Tannar officiating, and was attended by a large number of friends and neighbors, who came to attest their respect for the departed.
