Funeral services for Henry C. Adams, 75, who died at the University hospital in Iowa City on Monday, Feb. 04, were held at the Witt funeral chapel in Elkader at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, Feb. 08. The Rev. Paul Kitterer officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery, Elkader.
Henry C. Adams, son of Nicholas and Polly Adams, was born May 21, 1876, in Clayton county, Iowa, and received his education in the schools near his home. He was married in 1897 at West Union to Clara McKellar. He spent the first part of his life farming, but after the death of his wife he moved to Elkader where he worked at various types of work. In 1919 he moved to Dubuque where for twenty-one years he was employed by Collins and Kerns. For the past five years he made his home with his daughter Mrs. Bessie Kissell of Dubuque. After the death of his first wife he was married to Jessie Bingham of Waverly, Iowa.
Mr. Adams was a member of the Congregational Christian church, Elkader.
He is survived by seven children: Mrs. A. G. (Bessie) Kissell, Dubuque; Mrs. Frank (Ella) Hughes, Oak Park, Ill.; Mrs. William (Margerite) Kurdelmeyer, Farmersburg; Chester Adams, Charleston, Ill.; Merl Adams, Independence; Mrs. Geo. (Gladys) Straubinger, Marion; Mrs. Joseph Lemasters, Eldora, one brother, Oren Adams, Strawberry Point, and one sister, Mrs. C. H.(Mima) DeBow, Maynard. Also thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: D. E. Livingood, George Mohn, Albert Holden, William Stendel, Charles Stendel, Henry Wolf.
He was preceded in death by his first and second wife, his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
