Funeral services for Theodore Hetz were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the St. Peter's church in Garnavillo, with the Rev. Pannkuk officiating. Burial was in the Garnavillo cemetery. Pallbearers were: Loren Mohning, Emil Trede, LeRoy Loffelholz, Ed. Vorwald Jr., Bernell Kuehl and Forrest Fischer.
Theodore Hetz was born Jan. 16, 1888, to Philip and Barbara Hetz in Oberlangenstadt, Germany. He was educated there and served in the German army during World War I. He was captured and spent time in an English prison camp.
He came to America in 1923 and first settled in Fontanelle, Iowa. From there he moved to the National-Farmersburg area. In 1929 he moved to a farm in Clayton, where he spent the remainder of his life.
On March 13, 1926, he married Alma Mangels in Garnavillo. One daughter was born to this union. They also raised a foster daughter, Mrs. Henry Szemkus.
He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was a long-standing member of the Peace Lutheran church in Clayton. He also served as a deacon there for six years.
The deceased had been ailing for the past six months and died in the Prairie General hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis., Feb. 01, 1955, of coronary occulsion. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter Gladys, and four brothers, John, Carl, Alvin and Julius, all of Germany.

Burger, Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wacker, Waukon; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kohnke and Henry Prewter, Lyle, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Freese, Waterville; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Herzog, Guttenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Storbeck, Mrs. Christina Mohr, Mr. and Mrs. James Stence, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Ruhser, George Ruff, Mrs. Mary Wright, and Mrs. Robert Frye, all of Elkader; Mrs. Geneva Frye and Mrs. Clair McDonnell of Dubuque, and Edmund Ruff of National.
