Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Montgomery, 84, who died Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the state hospital in Independence, after an illness of 10 years, were held Thursday afternoon, Nov. 21, at 1:30 in the Schultz funeral home in Monona, with the Rev. A. W. Ebert officiating. Burial was in the Monona City cemetery.
Carrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Johnson of Fredericsal, Norway, was born on Oct. 23, 1873. In early youth she came to the United States and for a number of years lived with aunt in Lime Springs. Later she came to Monona and made her home with the Winkley family.
On May 16, 1900, she married Frank Montgomery, who maintained a coal and cement business in Monona. Mr. Montgomery died in August of 1946.
Mrs. Montgomery was a member of the Monona Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and was a past worthy matron of that organization. She was a member also of the Monona Women's Relief Corps and had always maintained her affiliations with the Methodist church.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Montgomery was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and one brother. She is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Harry Roberts of Harmony, Minn., and Mrs. Oscar Hammerness of Augusta, Ga.
Music for the services was provided by Mrs. Ben Frese and Mrs. George Martin, accompanied by Mrs. Ivon Schultz.
Pallbearers were: George Wiethorn, John Reidel, Don Humkey, Frank Bothel, Gilbert Fox, and Kenneth Resh.
