Clayton County Register, 04 Nov. 1948.

Charles Best, 67 a retired farmer living in Elkader, died at his farm in Read township at five o'clock Sunday evening. Funeral services were held at the residence at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and at 1:30 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran church, Clayton Center. The Rev. J. H. Zerhusen officiated. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
