STRAWBERRY POINT: Dr. Fred H. Howard died Monday morning at his home, following many months of failing health. Dr. Howard was born Feb. 06, 1860, in Delaware county, the son of John B. and Sarah Proctor Howard. When a small child he moved with his parents to a Fayette county farm, where he attended the public schools then pursued a higher academic course at Upper Iowa university at Fayette, after which he realized his early ambition, that of the study of medicine, by entering the Hahneman Homeopathic Medical college in Chicago, from which institution he was graduated in 1885.
After receiving his degree of Doctor of Medicine he engaged in practice at Volga City on March 14, 1885, coming to Strawberry Point the following year. On June 03, 1885, the doctor was married to Alice Clark of DeWitt, Iowa who died in 1899. In 1901 he was again married to Miss Alwilda Wood who died January 11 of this year.
Surviving are a son Dr. William H. (Tom) of Oelwein; a daughter Mrs. Ernest Young of Lyman, Nebraska; and two grandchildren.
Two sons Frank and Irwin preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, on his 86th birthday, at 2 o'clock at the Congregational church. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
