Clayton County Register, 08 June 1950.

Marten Henry Bergan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Bergan was born in Marion township, Clayton county, on April 15, 1885 and died at his home in Wagner township, May 26, 1950 at the age of 65 years, 1 month and 11 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norway Lutheran church. In 1918 he was united in marriage to Betsy Rude. To this union two children, Clarence at home, and Hilda of Madison, Wis. His wife preceded him in death 21 years ago.

Survivors are his two children, Clarence at home, and Hilda of Madison, Wis. Two brothers and one sister Willie of Gunder, Charlie of Cassville, Wis., and Mrs. Thore Thorsgaard of Volga.

Pallbearers were: Quentin Torkelson, Oscar Torkelson, Roy Eggers, Walter Wilke, Louie Fuelling and Herman Thompson.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. Theo. Janson, Mr. Jan Janson, Mrs. S. Sornson and Hilda Bergan, Madison, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bergan and Mavis, Cassville, Wis.; and Harry Bergan of Postville.
