Strawberry Point: Word was received here Thursday from Hastings, Minn., announcing the death of John W. Duerst. The body was shipped here Saturday evening and brief services were conducted at the grave by the Rev. Max O. Jahr.
John W. Duerst, son of George and Mary Anna Duerst, was born at Strawberry Point, May 09, 1861, and died at Hastings, Minn. He was associated with his father in the mercantile business here for several years, the son selling his interest to his father and for a short time was in the mercantile business in Nebraska, then a traveling salesman. For the past 15 years he has been night supervisor in the insane hospital at Hastings. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Davenport, of Los Angeles, Calif., and one son, George Duerst, of Omaha, Nebr., and two grandchildren; one sister and on brother, Mrs. Rose Wheeler and Julius C. Duerst, both of Strawberry Point.
