Clayton County Register, 20 Apr. 1938.

Christian Houg, son of Knut and Sidsel Houg, was born in Goodhue County, Minnesota, on February 21, 1868. He died at the Postville hospital on Thursday, April 14, 1938, after a brief illness although failing in health for some time.

Death was due to peritionitis.

He reached the age of 70 years, 1 month and 24 days.

When a child, his family came to Clayton county, and settled in Marion Twp., on the farm where Mrs. Kjosa now resides. Here he grew to manhood, reared in a Christian home, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church.

On June 13, 1906, he was united in marriage to Julia Thompson. They resided in Highland Twp. for 8 years and from there they moved to their present home in Wagner township.

This union was blessed with eight children, two of whom preceded him in death, namely, Thilman and Selma.

His wife together with the remaining six children mourn his departure. Lillian, Millard and Vernon at home, Mrs. Ray Glesne of Elkader, Carl on a farm nearby, and Mrs. Vernie Olson of McGregor. Also three small grandsons.

He also leaves one brother Ole, of St. Olaf, and three sisters, Mrs. P. T. Peterson, Mrs. Thor Kjosa, and Mrs. Otto Kjosa.

One brother, Carl, preceded him in death.

His life centered around his home and neighborhood, and was interested in the welfare of his children and grandchildren. He bore his suffering with patience, and was willing to go, when the Lord called him home.

He will be missed, not only by his relatives, but by a host of loyal friends.

Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon, at the Norway church, of which he was a member, Rev. Strandjord officiating.

Casket bearers were, Herbert Harms, Ewald Sabbann, Knut Olson, Henry Knutson, George Buell and Oscar Torkelson.
