LUANA: Mrs. Will Jones, 68, formerly of near Cresco, died at 7:15 Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman Baade, near Luana, where she had been living since March of this year. Last November she suffered a stroke from which she had never fully recovered.
Mrs. Jones was born at St. Olaf, Iowa, Jan. 29, 1868, the daughter of Rudolph and Mary Smith Engelhardt. Soon after her birth she was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Clayton Center, and in this congregation also received her Christian instruction and was confirmed.
In 1888 she was united in marriage to Will Jones. Their first home was made on a farm in Wagner township, and then in 1906 they moved to a farm near Cresco. Eight children were born to this couple, of whom Harry, Mabel, Bertha and Frank preceded the mother in death. Frank was killed on a battlefield of the World War, and until the time of her death Mrs. Jones was a faithful member of the Cresco Auxiliary of the American Legion. Mr. Jones died in 1908.
Mrs. Jones is survived by four children, Mrs. Maude Baade of Luana, Marvin, Lorenz and Floyd of Lime Springs; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Jones of Monona, Mrs. Alma Oelke of Mitchell, S.D., and Mrs. Henry Boller of Cresco; five brothers, George and Louis of Luana, John of Monona, Arthur of Lime Springs, and Robert of St. Olaf; also four grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Fred Wilke, died last February.
