ELKPORT: Funeral services for Mrs. Theodore Berns who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Muench, at Elkader, July 05, were held at St. Michael's church, Garber, July 08, the Rev. William Goetzinger officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery at Elkader.
The deceased was born July 15, 1866, two miles from Elkport in Volga township, and was the daughter of Michael and Mary Burns. At the time of her death she was 68 years, 11 months and 21 days of age.
She was married to Theodore Berns in the Catholic church at Elkport May 21, 1883. Besides her husband she is survived by ten children, 40 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The surviving children are: Mrs. William Muench of Elkader; Mrs. John Zapf and Mrs. George Kriebs of Elkport; Mrs. Agnes Grady of Dubuque; Mrs. Alphonse Whittle of Garber; and William of Elkader; Leroy and Laurence of Garber; Clarence of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Joseph of Cedar Rapids.
Casketbearers were six grandchildren: Roland Rutledge of Dubuque; Donald Muench of Elkader; Avin Berns of Garber; Jenrins Zapf, Marcellus Meyer and Cyril Meyer of Elkport.
The deceased was a devout member of the Catholic church. The very large attendance at the funeral showed that many respected and loved her.
