Clayton County Register, 26 Feb. 1936.
Mrs. Fred Taake died at her home here on February 23, a few minutes before midnight at the age of 73 years, six months and 19 days. She was born in Garnavillo township, August 04th, 1862, the daughter of Henry Vullgraf and his wife, Dorothy, nee Henning.
Mrs. Taake was a life-long resident of Clayton county. She spent her early days with her parents on farms in Garnavillo and Read townships. She was a member of the local Evangelical church and, until the time of her death, remained faithful to her Lord.
In the year 1892 she was united in marriage to Fred Taake, who survives her. One child, Hugo, was born to this union. He was called to his reward two years ago after suffering much and his death caused the mother to grieve deeply.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Taake moved to a farm in Read township where they made their home until the year 1918 when they retired and moved to Elkader where the deceased spent the remaining days of her life.
Mrs. Taake had a severe attack of Rheumatism in 1927. Again in 1932 she was called upon to undergo a major operation. After this operation she enjoyed her health again until about a year ago when her health began to fail and she suffered a complete breakdown.
She was confined to her bed just one week. Her husband and her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mahalie Taake, were constantly at her side during all her sickness and did all in their power to make her comfortable.
Her death is mourned by her husband, her daughter-in-law, one grandchild, Valeria Ladean, two brothers, Henry Vullgraf of Farmersburg and William Vullgraf of Monona, besides other relatives and friends.
Services will be held tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock in the Evangelical church and interment will be made at the cemetery at Clayton Centre. The Rev. P. Kitterer will officiate.
