Clayton County Register, 26 Feb. 1936.

STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for A. L. McGarvey, a former resident who died Saturday, Feb. 15, at the home of his son George in Washington, D.C. The services were held at his old home, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Louie J. Oldfather, conducted by Rev. James P. Gable, pastor of the Methodist church. The pallbearers were A. J. Stamp, B. W. Talcott, J.F. Grassmeyer, Rudolph Moser, M. G. Arnold, B. W. Newberry, L. W. Preston and Will Knight. Interment was made in the family lot of the Strawberry Point cemetery.

Albert L. McGarvey, the last of a family of six children, son of Alexander and Eliza McGarvey, was born in Dubuque, Iowa, Apil 08, 1853. About 1883 the deceased moved to Strawberry Point, which has been his residence, except for the past ten years, when he had lived with his son in Washington, D.C. He was married to Fannie Smith of Strawberry Point in 1880. His wife passed away in November, 1924. During his youth in Edgewood Mr. McGarvey worked with his father as a builder and contractor, thus learning the carpenter trade. He was actively engaged in his trade as a builder until 15 years ago, and many of the houses and buildings in and about Strawberry Point remain as a monument to his memory. He delighted in busying himself with the lighter tasks that were to be done in the home of his son, and enjoyed working with the shrubbery and trees, and with the bees, with which he spent considerable time. He retained a possession of his physical and mental faculties to a remarkable degree, and was thus able to enjoy life to the full, even to the last. Although gone from his old home, he made friends easily in his new home and always his old friends were near to him.
