The death of Louis Hines occurred Tuesday evening at his home after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Friday.

Louis Hines, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Hines, was born near Springfield, Ill., May 21, 1835 and died at his home in Lodomillo township, Feb. 20, 1912, aged 76 years, 8 months and 29 days.
He was one of a family of nine children, of which four brothers, Henry, John, Hiram and Thomas are still living.
He was married to Lavona Fox in 1863. To this union were born fourteen children, five of whom, Sylvester, Lester, Henry and Orvil, are living in this vicinity, and Mrs. Laura Carnicle, living at South Bend, Nebr., remain to mourn his loss. The other nine children died when small, with the exception of Mrs. Mary Quinette, who died at Manchester, in September, 1902.
Mr. Hines was widely known in this neighborhood, his father being one of the oldest settlers of Clayton County.
His funeral was held at the Christian church, Rev. van Swearingen, of Strawberry Point, officiating. Interment was made in Cox Creek cemetery.
