The subject of this sketch, G. Olson, who died Monday evening, Jan. 1st, 1912, at his home in Elkader, Ia., was born in Numedal, Norway, the 20th of Dec., 1829. He imigrated to America with the sailship "Emelia" the 11th of April 1859, and after a long and tiresome journey came to Rock Co., Wis., and later to Clayton County, Iowa, residing for some time close to St. Olaf, Ia., and in 1869 was united in marriage with Lauria Peterson.
They moved in 1910 to Elkader, Iowa, where he died at his home after a sickness of four months, at the age of 82 years and 11 days. The funeral was held Thursday at the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery. He passed away and leaves to mourn Mrs. Olson, Ole, Peter and Gustave Olson, of Elkader, Iowa; Mrs. N. Olson and Mrs. O. A. Olson, of St. Olaf, Iowa, and is also survived by a sister, ten years older, residing in Filmore Co., Minn.
Another of the old pioneers has left us, who cleared the way of earlier days and partook in the hardships. He was a worthy citizen, a good Christian, returned justice to all who had dealings with him, glad to depart,- not lost but gone before.
