Elkader Register, Thur., 21 Apr. 1892. Elkport and Vicinty column.

Died, April 15, 1892, John Jacob Krieg, aged 78 years. Once again the hand of death has entered our little city and has taken from among us one of our oldest and most worthy citizens. John Jacob Krieg was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, in the year 1814, and emigrated to this country in the year 1853, and immediately settled on a farm in Elk twp., where he resided for 32 years, after which he moved to Elkport, where he resided for seven years, or up to his death. In the year 1850 he married Christina Kiesling, who survives him. To them fifteen children were born, of which four have died and eleven remain as follows: Mrs. Wm. Koehn, of Elkport; Mrs. Wm. Witt, of Elkader; Mrs. Farber, of Dubuque; Mrs. Masters, of Dubuque; Mrs. Henry Oehsner, of Hermann, Mo.; Mrs. Pat. Roach, of Eagle Grove; Fred, Charles, Gustave, of Elkport; William, of Eagle Grove, and Henry, of Dubuque; all of whom have the heartfelt sympathy of our entire community in the death of a kind and affectionate husband and father. He also leaves two brothers, John, of Cox Creek, and Mathias, of Elk townships, and a brother-in-law, Caspar Studelmeyer, who resides in Elk township. The deceased was a man of Standing, worth, and integrity. Having lived in our community for forty years he was known as an honest and upright man, a man who had the respect and was held in the highest regard by every man, woman and child in Elkport. The funeral took place Sunday and was the largest ever held in Elkport. Fully fifty teams followed the remains to their last resting place. Rev. Seifert, of Clayton Center, preached a eloquent and impressive funeral sermon.
