Elkader Register, Thur., 31 Mar. 1892. Elkport column.
Eliza Jane Fleming died March, 27th, at 7 o'clock, of typhoid fever at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 18 days old. Eliza Jane Gordon was born in Washington County, Pa. She grew to womanhood there and was married to William Fleming. Living there for a few years they came to Elk township, Clayton County, where she has resided since, being one of the earliest settlers, and where she has won hosts of friends who will regret to hear of her death. Mrs. Fleming has been a member of the Methodist church for about 60 years and has now gone home to receive the crown that awaits the faithful. Her health for the last few years has not been very good, but death was not thought so near at hand until a few days ago, when we found that the end was near. She leaves seven grown children to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother. May she rest in peace. The funeral will take place on Wednesday at the home of Henry Rizer where she has been staying for the last year or over, at ten o'clock, and will be conducted by Rev. L. U. McNamee at the Asbury church. She will be buried in the Asbury cemetery.
