Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Jan. 1892. Garnavillo column.
Died, at her home in Garnavillo, on Tuesday, January 05, 1892, Mrs. Maria Adelhald Schulte, nee Waterman, wife of John H. Schulte. She had been suffering for many months, and death was not unexpected, and came at last a welcome messenger. Mrs. Schulte was born in Gehrde, Hanover, Germany, Feb. 13, 1826, In 1835 she emigrated to the U.S., settling in Piqua, Ohio, where in 1847, she was married to her surviving husband. She began housekeeping in New Bremen, Ohio, and in 1855 they moved to Clayton Co. and settled on a farm in Read township, where they resided until 1890, when they moved to Garnavillo. Nine children blessed their home, four of which have preceeded their mother in death. All of the surviving children have found homes of their own except the youngest, Caroline, who remains to comfort the aged father. Mrs. Schulte was a true Christian, who found the greatest delight in providing a true Christian home for her family. Silently and unostentatiously she practiced her noble profession, and many are they, who have come under her influence. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her funeral occurred on Friday. Rev. Deckhoff performing the ceremony. Her remains were buried at the new cemetery followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends.
