Yesterday occurred the funeral of John J. Gleason, son of Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Gleason of St. Paul. Deceased formerly resided at Elkader with his parents, in fact was reared to manhood in our midst, and had numerous friends here who greatly regret his untimely taking off. John was just in the prime of manhood, nearly 23 years of age, but inflammation of the bowels resulting from violent exercise on the fourth of July, closed what might otherwise have been a brilliant career. His death took place at the family residence in St. Paul, on Sunday afternoon. The remains were met at the depot by a large number of friends of the family and were taken to the Catholic church where brief services were held by Rev. Father Reilly.

We are requested by the family to return thanks to the Elkader friends who extended so much sympathy and aid in their hour of affliction.
