Elkader Register, Thur., 18 Aug. 1887.

At the residence of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Williamson, in this township, on Friday, August 12th, 1887, occurred the death of Mrs. Harriet C. Miles, of cancer.

Deceased was a native of Genesee County, New York, where she was born March 28th, 1821, being a little over 66 years of age at the time of her death. She was married to Daniel Miles, September 17, 1843, in New York state, and they resided there a number of years after that event. In 1869 they removed to Clayton County making their home in Read township. Here Mr. Miles died some years ago, but Mrs. Miles continued to make her home in Read and Boardman townships until the time of her death. She has been sorely afflicted for a number of years, but has borne her suffering in a spirit of Christian resignation, thus exemplifying the belief she avowed when she became a member of the M.E. church. She leaves four children, three sons and one daughter to mourn her death. Of the sons, F. M., and Isaac were with her during her last moments, as was also her daughter, Mrs. Williamson; the other son R. C., is living in Nebraska.

Mrs. Miles was beloved by all who enjoyed the pleasure of her acquaintance, and her death will be mourned by many.

The funeral occurred on Saturday last; Rev. I. C. Lusk officiating, and her remains were followed to their last resting place in the East Side cemetery by a large number of neighbors and friends.

A good woman has gone to her reward !
