Elkader Register, Thur., 09 June 1887.

Died at her home near Garnavillo, on Friday, June 03rd, Mrs. Henrietta Schmelzer, wife of Otto Schmelzer, at the age of 20 years, 8 months. Mrs. Schmelzer was the youngest daughter of Theodore Bearns. She was born at the home of her parents in Jefferson township, Oct 09, 1866, and married to Otto Schmelzer, April 22, 1885. The fruit of this union is one child a little over a year old, which survives her mother. Mrs. Schmelzer was a lady of many good qualities, who by her modest ways and unostentatious habits, won for herself a host of friends. She was the idol of her fond parents, and joy of her husband. Her remains were conveyed to the Catholic cemetery at Garnavillo, on Sunday, accompanied by the largest funeral procession that has been seen in Garnavillo for many years. The services were conducted by Rev. Father Hellrigle. May she rest in peace.
