Elkader Register, Thur., 18 Nov. 1886.
At the residence of his son, Ole, in Marion township, on Saturday last, occurred the death of Ole Johnson, Sr., one of the early settlers of Clayton county. Mr. Johnson's death was quite sudden. He arose in the morning feeling as well as usual, but shortly afterwards he complained of feeling unwell, and went to bed. About one o'clock in the afternoon he fell asleep, and never awoke. His death was probably caused by old age, as he was about 82 years old. Deceased was a native of Norway but came to this county some 38 years ago and has resided here continuously since that time. He leaves three sons, Ole, at whose house he died, Ben the stock buyer at Farmersburg, and one son whose name we did not learn, to mourn his loss, together with very many friends.
During his long residence in this county he bore the reputation of being an honest upright man, and was honored by all. The funeral occurred on Sunday last.
