Elkader Register, Thur., 28 Oct. 1886.
On Wednesday last Coroner Cain was summoned to Guttenberg to hold an inquest over the remains of Mrs. Meyers, who had committed suicide by jumping into the Mississippi River.
Mrs. Meyers, who was about 32 years of age, was a niece of Joseph Zimmermann of Guttenberg, and came over from Germany with him some week's since, and has been stopping at his house. Of late she has been despondent, and it is thought that she committed the deed while in a despondent state.
From the testimony it seems that she left Mr. Zimmermann's house on Sunday the 17th, and walking down the railroad track to the river, left her shawl on some rocks, and tying her handkerchief about her eyes, jumped in. Search was made for her as soon as she was missed, but the body was not found until Wednesday, when it was discovered by Alex Sullivan. She leaves one child which is in Germany. The funeral occurred on Thursday last, from the Zimmermann's house.
